Explain that to us!

In English, we have started our new topic for the next 2 weeks – explanation texts. This week, we have imitated our explanation best text: making posters; answering comprehension questions and researching on Ipads our topic for next week. We practiced our note taking skills and even started making our own frequency charts! Next week we will be finishing off this topic, by writing our own explanation texts on ‘How did the Roman Army use their shields in battle? Hopefully this will be an interesting read!

In Maths this week we focused on multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 digit number using the grid method. This was excellent as it helped us to revise our knowledge on using different grid methods and also helped us to practice our times tabled up to 12! We also had a practice with place value- understanding where the 100s, 10s and 1s numbers go on a place value grid and where to put those different numbers in different types of grids.

In Topic,( as many of you have probably already seen and had to sort card out for!) we have started to create our own Roman shields from our designs we did last week. This week, we cut the card out in the shield shape and create our metal orb for the front using newspapers and papier Mache. Next week, we will be putting our design symbols onto our shields and making our own Army formations (hopefully!) on the field. Alongside Topic, we have also linked our English learning to this (not only with explanation texts and research) but also learning all about the different Roman Army formations such as, the orb, tortoise and wedge. I’m sure if you ask your children what they are they would be very excited to tell you!
